MacBook Pro 17" / 15" - for other streaming / remote control via AirPlay and iTunes remote, as well as for playing some video formats that aren't supported by one of the other devices, or when we download something and don't want to wait for it to be uploaded to the NAS ) Xiaomi Box and MiBox 2 - foreign language content for my Wife :) Toshiba 42" TV + AppleTV (bedroom) (not smart tv, hence the AppleTV) Sony BluRay Home Theater amplifier (entertainment room) IPad / iPhones - remote controlling iTunes via AirPlay to AppleTV and AirPort plugged into amp for audio streaming, as well as remote YouTube display on Sony/Samsung TVs and AppleTVĮach of these devices has DLNA streaming from ReadyNAS as well as some other features IMac - iTunes library (played with PLEX and other media servers here, but nothing permanent)ĪppleTV - for AirPlay and XBMC/Frodo for DLNA, etcĪirPort Express - for AirPlay Audio streaming to amp / in-wall mounted speakers in living room I have set up many systems (for myself and several clients)Ģx Netgear ReadyNAS boxes (2TB/6TB) with video / audio set up to stream via DLNA What has the community used and what do you like/dislike about the available options? Or maybe something dedicated? Sonos? (I don't use iTunes) What I have works. Lately I've been exploring some other options for a media server, though, like Plex. This is my preferred method as all my music is encoded at a higher bitrate (mostly 320 kbps, some 192) This works really, really well with this receiver (you can control it with an app) and it's fast to boot. It also interfaces with DLNA capable devices, many of which are NAS devices, routers with attached media, etc.Ĭurrently, I have a NETGEAR ReadyNAS loaded up with my music and movies, serving it up as DLNA.

It can stream virtually anything from an iDevice with AirPlay plus has integrated Spotify and Pandora. The reason I picked this particular receiver, other than that it was very affordable, is that it's a network streamer. Part of the new setup involved one of these: Been waiting for this moment for almost ten years :) I recently moved to a more spacious home, and as such now FINALLY have space for a proper stereo setup.
